A ‘Pukka’ win for Bradman Lake

Bristol May 2009. When Pukka Pies, one of the most recognisable names on the high street, needed to up their productivity where did they turn? To a company whose integrated packaging technology is synonymous with innovation and technical excellence.

Bradman Lake has over forty years experience in the design, development and manufacture of standalone, or fully integrated, packaging systems. With brands such as Bradman Lake, Autowrappers and Europack, Bradman Lake has not only defined what is possible within the industry, they are fully committed to build on their successes and continue leading the way.

As an existing Bradman Lake customer, Pukka Pies were fully aware of the added value that comes as standard when you introduce such high calibre technology into your production line. As a company that pride themselves on their many quality assurance accreditations, it’s vital that their partners hold similar high standards in such high esteem; and when you produce over 50 million pies and pasties per year – packaging plays a major role in everyday business.

In 2004 Bradman Lake installed a SL902 fully automatic end load cartoner for the company that can reach speeds of up to 160 - cartons per minute. Seeing a significant improvement in their packaging capability and their growth in the retail market Pukka pies came to Bradman Lake again in July 2006 for a SL903 – also capable of up to 160 cartons per minute.

This latest win will be Bradman Lake’s largest order for the privately owned, family run, business. The centrepiece of the new integrated system was a new conveying system capable of receiving pies from three spiral chillers to feed various automatic or manual packaging lines. In addition, a new SL903 end load cartoner was ordered and a WR30 high speed wraparound case packer for shelf-ready display cases.

Pukka Pies’ slogan is ‘don’t compromise’, something they certainly don’t do when it comes to their packaging technology. And with thousands of installations under their belt, Bradman Lake Group continues to go from strength to strength.
