New collating system resolves sachet height restrictions
Hügli, the Swiss specialty foods producer, recently commissioned Bradman Lake to design and produce an end load sachet cartoning system at it's UK subsidiary.
The new sachet collating system provides a sachet count from 2 to 7 with multiple lengths and weights, is built around Bradman Lake's popular ‘cascade’ technology, which is widely used for handling bagged products including cereals, milk powder, loose tea, and a wide variety of dry ingredients.
Concerns about sachet stability on taller stacks were overcome through provision of a servo-driven moving overhead confiner incorporating paddles to track the infeed conveyor of the cartoner and provide greater control during product-to-carton transfer.
The system’s end load cartoner, a Bradman Lake SL 903, was selected from Bradman Lake’s wide end cartoning portfolio for its speed capability and its simple, tool-less size change functionality.

To accommodate the required dual lane product delivery, Bradman Lake provided a dual cascade loader, which is effectively two cascades sharing the same frame and electrical panel. As well as this, the standard cascade design was customised for sachets through a process of mounting the drive motors at the rear, thereby providing excellent front access and visibility. The dusty working environment also necessitated the redesign of the product abort system.
Chris Hurt - Managing Director, Hügli UK:
“Following an expansion of our production volumes we were in the market for a fully automatic end load cartoning solution. The offer from Bradman Lake won out over the rivals in the tender process. This was due to the technical proposal they offered and especially the speed and design of the cascade system, which is almost silent in operation. We are very pleased with the performance of the machine and we have had a smooth installation”
